Big Things Ahead

As each day passes I am in disbelief that I am wrapping up my third year here at the McConnell Center. With each day I value more and more all of the opportunities and experiences I have had and will have in the next year. Even though we have had distinguished speakers and noteworthy scholars come in the past, we keep finding new ways to set the bar even higher. For example, later this week  I will be able to tell other people my age that I had the pleasure of meeting the Defense Secretary of the United States. Even typing that statement right now gives me goosebumps.

In a time where our country is in a delicate state regarding defense; my fellow scholars and I are going to question Secretary Panetta, who is not only the current Secretary of Defense, but is the former CIA director, and was a former Congressman. Not to state the obvious, but it seems that he is qualified to discuss the issues of today. The Middle East is becoming the main issue of all countries not only in regards to safety but also economically with oil. As student who has a passion in Middle Eastern studies I am excited to see what the Secretary will say about the current administration's views on the rising tensions there and what could happen.

Even with all of this happening, there are more exciting events starting to unfold for my class. On top of having the secretary coming and interview weekend also, our upcoming trip to China is starting to gain moment. With the class underway and the preparation starting, I'll soon find myself on a plane with my class off to Shanghai. I am excited for what the end of the semester will bring and am looking forward to all the upcoming events; except of course, the senior dinner where we will send our seniors off onto the next step of their lives. Until the next blog!
