Having completed my first year as a McConnell Scholar at the University of Louisville, I am now at a point where I can reflect on my college experience. During the past semester, I have been to North Carolina, Florida, Tennessee, Georgia and Louisiana. In North Carolina, I participated in the inaugural National College Youth in Government Assembly and served as a Supreme Court Justice in the judicial section of the conference. I have learned a lot about moot court from this experience, and I am looking forward to continuing to continue serving as a Justice. I went to New Orleans to watch the Sugar Bowl and ended up with fifth row tickets and had an incredible time watching the Cardinals dominate the game. I felt extremely fortunate to be able to watch my school when the Sugar Bowl my freshman year, and just that win would have marked a very successful year in Cardinal Athletics. However, our success continued as both our men’s and women’s basketball teams made it to the National Championship game. Going to Atlanta and watching our men’s team win the NCAA National Championship was a truly remarkable experience especially since I was on the floor of the arena, surrounded by my friends. I cannot even begin to recount the emotions I felt at the end of the game, and I am so lucky to have been part of such an incredible experience.
I traveled to Memphis for the Southeast Region Orientation Workshop because I am on Student Orientation Staff, and it was a really great opportunity. I had the chance to meet students from all around the region and show my school pride, and from it, I realized how thankful I am that I chose to attend U of L. With the McConnell Scholars Program, I have been able to meet some incredible leaders like Senator Marco Rubio and Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, and these experiences have contributed to my leadership style. I have also had the opportunity to attend lectures and seminars from visiting professors on a variety of topics like Cicero and Strategic Leadership. Reflecting about my first year in college, I have realized how fortunate I am to be a McConnell Scholar, and I am really looking forward to my next three years here.
