Shoutout to my iPhone Camera

By Katie Hayden

Many who know me will attest to the fact that I may have been born in the wrong generation. I am fairly certain that I should have been born in an age when technology was nearly non-existent or at least in its early stages. Being a STEM major, I have always struggled with the big “T” that stands for technology because I struggle so much in that area; however, I am so grateful for the many things and abilities that technology gives us. I am thankful for the microwave to warm up my food, the curling iron I use to curl my hair, the laptop I am using to type this blog. I am thankful for the TV that allows me to watch movies with my roommates and the car I use to drive to work. I am thankful for each of the inventions I use daily, and I definitely could not pick a favorite; however, some are higher on my list than others.

One of my very favorite technological devices is the tiny little camera on the front of my iPhone. I love that the camera roll on my phone has the ability to capture moments in time – moments that I will never get to relive in real time – and lets me keep them in my memory. My camera roll contains happy memories, sad memories, funny memories, and more. It allows me to look back over the past few years and reflect on my growth, both physically and intellectually, as I look back and see the same person look so different. It shows me how the places I have seen, experiences I have lived, and maybe even the people I have surrounded myself with may have changed and evolved, but through it all I have continued to learn and grow.

To someone else, my pictures probably look just like anyone else's, like people dancing on a background, but to me, they are so much more. They tell a story of some of my favorite memories in pictures and remind me of those who have been there with me through it all. While I am thankful for many things, there is something special about the little rectangle that fits in your pocket and the little circle camera on the front. While the pictures I share may seem like pictures to you, they are some of my future stories, hardest lessons, and fondest memories, and for that I am so thankful for my iPhone camera.
