As graduation is fast approaching, I have been thinking about all that I have been able to do since coming to college: from serving as Student Body President and interning in Frankfort to eating new types of food and traveling out of the country. I have been given such new and exciting opportunities that I never could have imagined when stepping on this campus for the first time 4 years ago. Though I will leave this campus in just a couple months, I will forever be grateful for every memory I was able to make on this campus.
As graduation is fast approaching, I have been thinking about all that I have missed out on since coming to college: from birthdays, anniversaries, and suppers to the first day of school for my little sister. Though I have been given such new and exciting opportunities that I never could have imagined when stepping on this campus for the first time 4 years ago, I have missed out on such important moments for my family. I will leave this campus in just a couple months, and I hope I will be able to spend more time with my family. The hardest question I have been asked since coming to college was not in Organic Chemistry or International Relations, but by my little sister. Every time we talk on the phone she asks, “When are you coming home?” This may seem like a simple question with a simple answer, but it never is. Trying to explain to a 5-year-old the concept of time and the responsibilities that you have on campus and in another city is never easy.
As graduation is fast approaching, I have been thinking about how no matter where I go in the world, my home will always be Clay County. I have been given such new and exciting opportunities that I never could have imagined when stepping onto this campus 4 years ago, but my family is in Clay and that’s where part of my heart will always be. Though I will leave this campus in just a couple months, home has always been where Maggie James and my family are.
