I was given the great opportunity to work as a student assistant at the McConnell Center this past semester, and will continue to do so in the future. During my time as an assistant in the Center, I got a chance to see some of the behind the scenes work that it takes to keep the Center up and running and providing the University of Louisville, the City of Louisville, and the Commonwealth of Kentucky with some of the best speakers and educational opportunities around. Scholars of the program file in and out of the Weber Lounge on a daily basis, study, and socialize with friends in the Center, but never really get an understanding of the work that is put in by the staff over the course of the day. The staff is constantly working to make the experience of the students better and to make sure that the time they spend at the university is the best possible.
Along with their obvious focus on the student, the staff also works diligently to make sure that the image of the Center within the university and the community as well as the public educational events provided are up to the standards strived for within the Center. The McConnell Center strives to be the best, recruit the best, and provide the best. From the administration of the Center, to the public relations department, to the students themselves, the McConnell Center has always been, and always will be, the best it can be and that all starts with the staff. Of course the students work to be the best they can, but without the structure placed in front of them and the opportunities brought to them by the staff and Senator McConnell himself, they could not accomplish nearly as much as they do now.
For this, I applaud the efforts of the staff and give them the recognition they deserve, finally. Without them, the whole place would come crumbling down before our eyes and where would we be then? We would be lost without them and I am so thankful for them and their work! Thanks staff!
