Being Fashionable and Fashionably Late in College

You’re broke, you’re hungry, you’re tired, you’re stressed, but you better be fashionable and cute. The perfect pairing of trends and classics is essential.

Everyday you’ll wake up and roll out bed and question “what’s on the schedule for the day?”--where you simultaneously have everything, yet nothing to do. You instantly grab the sweats and the oversized tee, but your mother is screaming in the back of your head to have a “respectable” appearance. Honey, if there’s one thing I know it’s that looking good takes time. So, as the time begins to dwindle away and the sweatpants--unless paired with a matching and in-trend top--are no longer an option, you begin to rummage through your closet and drawers in search of the perfect ensemble. OOPS--you’re going to be twenty minutes late to your fifty-minute class.

However, there are rules to this game. You might very well be occasionally late to class but you really shouldn’t turn in graded assignments late. Also, if attendance counts and your professor is strict about being there when roll is taken, be cognizant of that. Remember your style should represent both who you are and who you want to be. People look at you for face value; not much digging is going to be done. So, be aware that the impression you make by appearance and action is important. Then remember that time is valuable, you never know when yours or theirs is going to run out. So, don’t play with your own time or other people’s time.

While keeping the rules in mind, remember that making an entrance is EVERYTHING. Sometimes getting noticed is exactly what you need, while in different situations you should blend in. A balanced wardrobe is crucial: what you wear to a meeting versus the annual Halloween party should be completely different. While being fashionably late is important…maybe not to that meeting for your internship. Being late to more leisurely events depends on how drained your finances are and if that leisurely event costs money, and the time frame in which it costs. Most importantly always look put together. You more than likely will be falling apart and tired and stressed and hungry--but present yourself as someone who has it all under their feet and is still standing tall.

Ultimately, be cute but appreciate time and always show your best face.
